Trading Status
The doctors practise together as a non-limited partnership, the partners being
Dr P M Bateson, Dr G R Cook and Dr D P M Ryan and trade as Grassendale Medical Practice.
Locum Doctors
There are occasions when, due to doctors being unavailable, you will be seen by a locum doctor. Locum doctors are carefully selected by the practice and you can expect the same high level of service that
you would get from one of the partners.
General Practitioners Registrar And Students
Our practice is a teaching/training practice. We frequently have medical students attached to the practice and with patients consent they may consult with the doctors to learn more about General Practice.
Fully qualified doctors with a great deal of hospital experience will from time to time be attached to the practice for further training. These doctors are known as Registrars. Patients can book appointments
with Registrars as they would with any of the partners. We feel that they add a fresh enthusiastic approach which adds to the health care we provide. They are encouraged to seek advice from the practice
partners when necessary. We are confident that patients will benefit from their contribution to the Primary Health Care Team.
Practice Staff
We have a management team led by our practice manager, Lyn Bateson. Sandra Tarbuck is assistant practice manager. All are available to help you with any administrative or non medical aspects of your health
and treatment, and will discuss any suggestions or complaints you may wish to raise.

Sister Valerie Hawkins is our nurse practitioner and can prescribe. She is qualified to deal with:
Sore throat
Chest infection
Ear pain
Conjunctivitis
Coughs
Fever
Eczema and skin infections
Muscle strain

Practice Nurses
We have one practice nurse, Sister Irene Garnier and Sister Val Hawkins, who are both involved in chronic disease management and run the following clinics: diabetic, asthma, heart disease, health check,
health promotion, cervical smears, hypertension, general clinics as well as giving contraceptive advice.
Health Care Assistant
Mrs Beverley Lea is our healthcare assistant and is part of the nursing team.
She is available for health checks, hypertension and some blood monitoring.
Receptionists
A number of receptionists are employed to help you and do a very difficult job well. Please remember that if you need to be kept waiting or seem to be asked one or two irritating questions, they are
carrying out our policy, which is aimed at making the practice run smoothly. So please try to give the information they require. They have been told to elicit this and are not just being nosey. They are bound
by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses.
Attached Staff
Health Visitors
Ruth Williams and her team are our health visitors attached to the practice. They advise on various health matters including the care and development of children under five and health during pregnancy. They
are highly trained nurses who specialise in health promotion, the needs of the young, adolescent and the elderly.
District Nurses
We no longer have district nurse clinics at the surgery. If you need a district nurse please ask at reception for details of referral.
Community Midwife
The community midwife provides antenatal and postnatal care including a weekly antenatal clinic in the surgery.
Confidentiality/Access to Patient Information
The confidentiality of patient information is maintained at all times in accordance with NHS guidelines. We are registered under the Data Protection Act as the same standards of confidentiality are applied
to information held on our computer system.
Violence And Abuse To Doctors, Staff And Other Persons
A zero tolerance policy towards violent, threatening and abusive behaviour is now in place throughout the NHS. The doctors, nurses and staff in this practice have the right to do their work in an
environment free from violent, threatening or abusive behaviour and everything will be done to protect that right. At no time will any such behaviour be tolerated in this practice. If you do not respect the
rights of our staff we will inform the police and you will be removed from our practice list.
